Joined Boston Ballet in 2013
Dawn Atkins trained at Richmond Ballet throughout her early years. She attended high school at The University of North Carolina School of the Arts under the artistic direction of Ethan Stiefel. Atkins then joined the Trainee program at Boston Ballet School, where she studied for one year under the Pao Scholarship Program. In 2012, Atkins was invited to become a member of Boston Ballet II and in 2013 she joined the Company. Atkins attended the 2012 Professional Dance Festival in Banff, Canada, as a scholarship recipient. Atkins was Boston Ballet's 2013 Princess Grace Award nominee.
Atkins has danced leading roles in George Balanchine's Rubies and Episodes as well as performing in Symphony in C, Symphony in Three Movements, Serenade, Coppélia, Jewels, and Theme and Variations. Additional Boston Ballet repertoire includes Mikko Nissinen's The Nutcracker and Swan Lake, Marius Petipa's The Sleeping Beauty, Jerome Robbins' The Concert, Florence Clerc's La Bayadère, José Martinez's Resonance, Sir Frederick Ashton's Cinderella, Harald Lander's Études, Val Caniparoli's Lady of the Camellias, Helen Picket's Eventide, and William Forsythe's The Second Detail.
