        Isaac Akiba

        Corps de Ballet

        Boston, MA
        2009

Boston native Isaac Akiba started dancing in Boston Ballet’s Citydance program at age 9 and began training at Boston Ballet School in 1998. During this time, he studied under Sydney Leonard, Franco Devita, and Dierdre Miles Burger. Akiba joined Boston Ballet II in 2007 and was promoted to Boston Ballet’s corps de ballet in 2009. His Boston Ballet repertoire includes The Nutcracker, Romeo & Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Paquita, Prodigal Son, and Jorma Elo’s Carmen.

Akiba participated in The World Ballet Competition in Orlando where he won the Silver Medal in the Pas de Deux category. He has also competed in the Beijing International Ballet Invitational and was a semi-finalist. He performed The Black Swan (male variation Act III), La Fille mal gardée (Colas), and a contemporary piece, Nine, by Heather Myers.

Akiba has also studied at summer intensive programs such as Walnut Hill, School of American Ballet, Miami City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Edward Ellison and Jacob’s Pillow. He was awarded the Harry Wilcott Scholarship in 2006 based upon his determination, perseverance, and discipline at Boston Ballet.

See Isaac in his first season at Boston Ballet.
