        General Fiscal Oversight

        • Implements, monitors, manages, and adjusts development plans throughout the annual budget cycle.
        • Conducts or arranges studies for campaigns and other initiatives as needed.

Relationships with staff and donor base

        • Strengthens, motivates, and unites existing development staff to work collaboratively and efficiently to meet annual goals.
        • Employs strong communication skills to express clear expectations around job responsibilities and ensures accountability for each team member.
        • Encourages professional excellence and achievement throughout the department.
        • Ensures donor expectations are met and exceeded through appropriate and well-managed recognition, acknowledgement, and stewardship programs.

        Communications

        • Ensures the professional quality of all department communications: electronic, written and oral.
        • Meets regularly with appropriate personnel to inform, advise, consult, and support department activities.
        • Meets regularly with appropriate Boston Ballet senior management to represent the development activities and programs.
        • Works in partnership with the Executive Director, development and program staff, Trustee and volunteers in their respective fundraising roles.
        • Participates in strategic and operational planning with the senior management team to ensure that common objectives are met.

        • Ensures the ethical handling of all confidential donor and prospect information.
        • Regularly audits development department activities to suggest improvements and ensure that goals are met.

        Qualifications

The Director of Development will be a strong leader, skilled manager, and a results-oriented development professional with:

        • A bachelor-level degree in a related field, or equivalent experience
        • Ten years of successful experience in fundraising and relationship-building
        • A track record of managing contributed revenue programs and departments that successfully raise more than $5,000,000.
        • Superior management skills, with the ability to balance multiple projects, competing demands, and changing priorities.
        • Experience managing a staff of at least five
        • Outstanding interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, and the ability to work cooperatively with a broad range of individual personalities.
        • Demonstrated initiative, autonomy, and strategic thinking.
        • Meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational and analytical skills.
