Boston Ballet, the fourth largest dance company in the United States, offers internships for undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in arts administration and nonprofit organizations. Positions are unpaid and are available throughout the academic year or during the summer.
The Ballet asks for a commitment of 12-15 scheduled hours per week. The number of positions varies according to departmental needs. Interns may receive academic credit for participation in Boston Ballet's internship program. Active interns in the Fall and Spring are eligible for
complimentary tickets to season performances and discounted classes.
An internship with Boston Ballet offers valuable experience working in the exciting and vibrant atmosphere of a world-class dance company. The repertory includes an eclectic mix of classic story ballets, contemporary ballets, and avant-garde works.

Boston Ballet School Internship
A Boston Ballet School internship is an opportunity to learn the inner workings of a non-profit arts organization. Interns with Boston Ballet School serve as integral team members assisting the full-time and part-time staff with daily operations as well as long term goals. Costume Shop Internship
Interns in the Costume Department will gain direct experience in costume construction and professional shop operations.
Costume Shop Internship - Craft & Dye Intern
Gain direct experience in costume crafts construction and professional shop operations.
Instruction in making headpieces and accessories for stage use, including tiaras, hats, jewelry, floral sprays and armor. Gain experience dyeing dancewear fabrics and practice color matching with paint and dye. Strengthen hand skills, including stitching, wire-wrapping, jewelry and millinery techniques. Receive instruction in proper chemical safety and use of safety equipment
Development - Annual Giving Internship
The Annual Giving Intern will work on several large projects that support the Individual Giving team’s fundraising and cultivation efforts in the Development Department.
Development - Corporate Relations Internship
Development intern will work on a large number of changing projects that support the institutional team’s fundraising and cultivation efforts. Will focus primarily on corporate fundraising efforts. Interns will receive a broad and comprehensive view of corporate and institutional giving programs.
Development - Special Events Internship
Development/Special Events interns will work on a large number of changing projects that support the department’s fundraising and cultivation efforts.
Education and Community Initiatives - General Internship
The ECI Intern is integral to the ECI team and Boston Ballet's efforts to engage constituents through its work on stage, in the studio, and in the community. The internship is an opportunity to learn the inner workings of a non-profit arts organization. The intern will report to ECI Managers and work directly on the department's school term and summer programs.
Executive Department Internship
The Executive Intern will report to the Executive Administrator assisting with daily, weekly, and overall goals for the 2012-2013 season. Internship hours range from 15-25 hours per week.
Marketing and Communications - Archives and Special Projects Internship
Under the supervision of the Boston Ballet Volunteer Archivist and the Director of Public Relations and Social Media, the Archives & Special Projects Intern will assist the volunteer archivist in researching the history of the Boston Ballet in preparation for Boston Ballet’s 50th Anniversary Season. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, extracting information on Boston Ballet History, Repertoire, and Key Events and Dates by physically going through Playbills, social media and traditional media platforms, and archival materials housed at the Boston Ballet company headquarters and compiling the information into spreadsheets to be included in the Boston Ballet Timeline.
