Newton - Classical Ballet Newton
Maureen Kelly began her training at the Santa Barbara Ballet Center in California where she studied under Denise Rinaldi (FISTD) and Michelle Andersen-Pearson (TCRAD). While there, she earned marks of Highly Commended and Honours on both her Cecchetti and RAD exams (Grades and Majors).
To supplement her training at home, Maureen attended summer programs at CPYB and Boston Ballet. She also had the opportunity to perform a number of soloist roles with the Santa Barbara Festival Ballet, and participate in the Santa Barbara Ballet Competition where she was awarded second place in the Senior Ladies Division.
Maureen moved to Boston in 2004 to continue studying at the Boston Ballet School. In addition to her training, she performed with the school ensemble, worked for the Center for Dance Education's Citydance program, and became a teachers’ assistant. She returned to CPYB in August 2007 for a Teachers’ Workshop led by Marcia Dale Weary and Darla Hoover along with Melinda Howe and Leslie Hench.
In September 2007 Maureen joined the faculty of the Boston Ballet School at the Boston location, and also taught a creative movement class and a pre-ballet class at Hill House, an independent community center serving downtown Boston. Maureen has since taught at SDP Newton, SDW Newton and Marblehead, and currently teaches in the Children’s Division and Elementary levels in the Boston and Newton studios as well as continuing to work with Citydance.
