        • The Adult Beginner Program varies based on location as outlined below and maintains a low student-faculty ratio to allow for individualized attention:

          Boston
The Adult Beginner Ballet program at the Boston studio is designed in semesters around two levels, Adult Beginner 1(AB1) and Adult Beginner 2 (AB2).

          • Adult Beginner 1
AB1’s curriculum is geared towards adults with no prior knowledge or memory of ballet vocabulary. For adults wishing to begin ballet or resume their study of it following many years away from the studio, this class prose is ideal in terms of pace, class size and instruction. After one semester of AB1, students move into AB2
          • Adult Beginner 2
Adults in AB2 are expected to have an understanding of ballet fundamentals such as plié, entendu, etc. The general population of this course is adults who have completed one semester of AB1 and should attend one more semester in AB to strengthen their skills and technique before graduating into Open Classes. It also consists of adults returning to the studio for the first time in a few years and wish to take a “refresher” course before moving into Open Classes.

          Newton
The Adult Beginner program in the Newton studio is designed to be a full year program running from September through June. Students are welcome to register either for one semester at a time, or for the full year program. Registration in this program is on-going so students are welcome to join at any point during the course of the year.

          • The Adult Beginner curriculum focuses on introducing ballet fundamentals to new and returning students. Over the course of the year, the material covered will continue to grow and build upon itself while providing individualized attention to each student.

        • What is the Adult Beginner Program?
The Adult Beginner Program is geared towards students with no prior training or those wishing to resume their study of ballet following many years away from the studio.  This program is offered at both our Boston and Newton state-of-the-art facilities.

The Adult Beginner Ballet program at the Boston studio is designed in semesters around two levels: Adult Beginner 1 (AB1) and Adult Beginner 2 (AB2).  AB1 is ideal for those students with little or no ballet training. After one semester of AB1, students may move into AB2.

The Adult Beginner program in the Newton studio is designed to be a full year program running from September through June. Students are welcome to register either for one semester at a time, or for the full year program. Registration in the program is on-going, so students are welcome to join at any point during the course of the year.

          What are Open Adult classes?
Boston Ballet School’s Open Adult classes allow for a more flexible course of study for students ages 16 and older. Classes are offered at Boston, Newton, and Marblehead on a drop-in basis with no pre-registration required. Students sign-in and pay before each class with a Studio Administrator. Classes are offered in a variety of technique levels, as well as in Modern, Character, Pilates, and Ballet Workout.

          What should I wear?
The only traditional ballet attire we require of our adult students is ballet slippers. Otherwise, students wear what is easy to move in and makes them most at ease. For some, this is the traditional leotard and tights; for others, this is closer to typical work-out clothing – sweats, leggings, t-shirts. Whatever you choose to wear, we ask that it be form-fitted, stretchy, allow for freedom of movement and be comfortable. Longer hair should be pulled back away from the face and dangling jewelry is discouraged.

Are there locker rooms available for students?
Yes, Boston Ballet School studios have changing facilities available for student use. Students are encouraged to bring locks to secure their items while they are in class. Students must remove locks at the end of each day.

How do I know if the school is closed due to inclement weather or other  reasons?
Closings due to inclement weather or other emergencies are listed on our Class Cancellation Hotline.  When the weather turns bad, we assess cancelling classes three times during the day: 7am, 12pm, and 3pm. If we determine that classes will be cancelled, it will be listed on the hotline. To access the Class Cancellation Hotline, please call 617.695.6950, ext: 567 for the most up-to-date information.

Do BBS Students receive discounts to company performances?
Yes, as a member of Boston Ballet School, the official school of Boston Ballet, students receive discounts to select company performances. Please contact the Box Office at 617.695.6955 for the most up-to-date student subscriptions and other special offers.

What is the best way for me to get information about Boston Ballet School?
We communicate important School information and updates to our students primarily via email – so please make sure we have your email address. This enables you to receive communications such as BBS Connections, the school’s monthly newsletter. Boston Ballet’s website is updated frequently and is a great resource for students. Also, your Studio Administrators are there to help! If you have any questions or concerns, please ask them for assistance.
