How long have you been attending class at BB?
I started taking modern dance with Yo-el Cassell last fall, and I've attended regularly. Until just this week, Yo-el's class was the only class I've taken at the Boston Ballet, so by default, that is my favorite class. But I did enjoy my first ballet class with the Boston Ballet and am looking forward to more.
What effect does dance have in your life?
First, it keeps me physically active in an enjoyable, excited manner. It's a nice way to end the day after 8 hours of sitting at a computer. Second, dance gives me another vocabulary through which I can experience my life around me. When I'm happy, I know I can celebrate with my entire body. And I can relive those emotions by dancing again. Lastly, dance has become a more than just a hobby. I aspire to become a dancer and perform when I find those opportunities.
Personal “fun fact”: Several related fun facts: I first started dancing by taking modern dance in college. I graduated from Bennington College where I majored in (and enjoyed studying) math. But--and here's the most fun fact--for a while, I was considering studying either music or dance instead.

How long have you been attending class at BB?
I have been attending classes at Boston Ballet since March of this year. I took classes at various schools all through my young adult life, but I stopped about 25 years ago. My daughter who has been a Boston Ballet student for several years convinced me to start taking classes again. Right now, I am taking the beginner level classes on Monday and Wednesday nights and enjoy both classes. I find the faculty to be extremely supportive.
What effect does dance have in your life?
Dance, especially ballet, has always been a part of my life. I try to attend as many performances as possible. The music and the artistry of the dancers is always uplifting and inspiring. By taking classes again, I feel that I am not only gaining the benefit of the exercise that dance provides but I am also reconnecting with a world that I enjoy.
How do you think Endicott students will benefit from taking class at Boston Ballet?
I am delighted that Endicott College has been able to develop a relationship with Boston Ballet as the College continues to build its dance program. Our students will greatly benefit from the quality instruction that they will receive from Boston Ballet’s renowned teachers through workshops and classes held both in our new Center for the Arts and at Boston Ballet’s Marblehead studios. In addition, Endicott students will have the opportunity to attend performances and to expand their understanding of the dance world. Our students and performing arts faculty are excited about the opportunity to work with Boston Ballet.
Personal “fun fact”: I am the Vice President and Dean of Endicott’s Undergraduate College. I have two children—my son who just graduated from Endicott with a degree in Visual Communications and Photography and my daughter who has taken classes at Boston Ballet for the past five years and who will be entering Endicott in the fall as an art major.
