Boston Ballet School Placement Class/ Auditions
Boston Ballet School requests that all new students ages 9 and older with previous ballet training attend a placement class before registering so that we may determine the level of study most appropriate to their abilities.
We do not “audition” students for our Classical Ballet Program since we do not want to turn away interested dancers; rather we ask them to attend a basic ballet class through which we assess the correct placement for them among our student population.
Prospective students should arrive to the placement assessment wearing regular ballet attire (no skirts or leg warmers allowed) and pull hair back neatly and securely off of the neck. Students with Pointe experience should bring their Pointe shoes with them.
Students do not need to audition at the location they prefer to attend class. Please note that most but
not all levels are available at every studio location.
For Group Placement Classes please note:
*Students in first age group may be asked to stay and audition with second age group at the discretion of the BBS faculty.
**Depending on number and ages of applicants, students may be divided into two audition groups. Placement classes generally take one hour. Occasionally younger students between the ages of 8-11 may be evaluated within 15-25 minutes.
Finally, the fee for the placement assessment is $25.00, collected on the day of the placement class.

Placement Class Information
Following the placment class, you will be notified by the Studio Administrator as to your child's placement and walked through the registration process.
Pre-Professional Audition
The Pre-Professional Audition for the 2010-2011 will take place Spring 2010.
If you will not be in the Boston area during the time of a scheduled group audition, you may audition via video. Please review the downloadable packet and submit the completed application and video to be reviewed by Boston Ballet School artistic staff.
