Boston Ballet announces Summer 2010 Spain Tour

Boston Ballet completed 14 successful performances on a five city tour of Spain, with the final performances of Ultimate Balanchine and Made in Boston to full houses in Granada's Generalife Theatre on the grounds of the Alhambra.

The Company has performed in Barcelona, San Sebastían, Santander, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and Granada. Previously scheduled performances in Madrid were cancelled due to economics and logistics in that city.

Throughout the tour, Boston Ballet recieved enthusiastic response from Spanish audiences and praise from European critics. El Diario Montanes called Boston Ballet “one of the best companies in the world.” El Pais described the Ultimate Balanchine works as “hypnotic” and “danced with breathtaking speed and perfection.” Boston Ballet made front-page headlines in Granada two days in a row called by IDEAL “a true marvel." Of Boston Ballet’s final Made in Boston performance, Granada Hoy described, “between shouts of ‘bravo!’ and standing ovations last night, the public at Generalife said goodbye to Boston Ballet. The American company had five works of the newest and most prestigious choreographers and foreign visitors last night heartily applauded and enjoyed the magnificent spectacle.”

Boston Ballet is in full preparation for the 2010-2011 season and the Company begins rehearsals on August 9. Boston Ballet will take the stage at The Boston Opera House October 23 with Night of Stars, followed by La Bayadère, November 4-14.

        Boston Ballet on Tour

Boston Ballet is committed to sharing its critically acclaimed repertoire and roster of talented artists with local, regional and international audiences. In 2007, the company revived its touring foray after 16 years with a triumphant six-week tour to seven cities in Spain. Building on the success of the Spanish tour, the company has recently appeared at major U.S. dance festivals including the Fall for Dance Festivals at New York’s City Center and Orange County Performing Arts Center, the Spoleto Festival USA in Charleston, SC and the Ballet Across America Festival at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC. In 2008, Boston Ballet returned to the international stage with inaugural performances in Seoul, South Korea and delighted audiences with a broad range of contemporary and neo-classical repertoire never before presented in Korea. Most recently, in January 2010, Boston Ballet traveled to Ottawa, Canada to make the Company’s premiere performances at the National Arts Centre. With a 2009 company rebranding and move to a permanent home theatre at The Boston Opera House, countless artistic successes on stage, and significant growth of Boston Ballet School’s education and community outreach programs, Boston Ballet continues to leave its mark around the world.
