Technology Suggestions:

In advance of the placement class, students should install the Zoom app on the applicable device. During the class, students will sign in to Zoom with their personal email or Zoom account. So that we can maximize student privacy and program security, meetings will be password protected. Students must make sure their full name (first, last) is displayed on Zoom in order to be let into the class.
Students should make sure that their cameras are positioned in a way that can capture their full body from a distance. Students should also make sure that the lighting in their at-home studio is conducive to being seen well on camera. For example, if a student is positioned between the camera and a bright window, they will be silhouetted, and the faculty will not be able to properly view their technique. For the best results, light sources should be positioned in front of a student, rather than behind.
Because devices may be a good distance away from the student in order for the camera to capture the student’s full body, students should make sure they are able to clearly hear the instructor and the accompanist. If students have headphones or Bluetooth speakers that can be connected to their device, it is suggested that students use them for the placement classes.

Placement Class FAQs:

What should I wear to the placement class?
Prospective students should wear regular ballet attire (no skirts or leg warmers allowed) with hair pulled back neatly and securely off of the neck. Students with pointe experience should have their pointe shoes nearby and be prepared to put them on during class.

How long will the placement class last?
Depending on the ages and amount of applicants, students may be divided into two groups. Placement classes generally take one hour, although prospective students may finish prior to the scheduled end time. Occasionally, younger students between the ages of 9-11 may be evaluated within 15-25 minutes.
