Power and poetry
This duo of astonishing contemporary works features the North American premiere of Obsidian Tear; a co-production with The Royal Ballet, this is a work of stunning artistic vision by their Resident Choreographer Wayne McGregor, inspired by the symphonic poetry of acclaimed composer Esa-Pekka Salonen. By turns powerful and sexy, athletic and dramatic, violent and vulnerable, the ballet highlights the athleticism of nine male dancers while capturing the emotional and social forces exerted on human life. It is accompanied by a world premiere by Boston Ballet’s Resident Choreographer Jorma Elo, Fifth Symphony of Jean Sibelius and an orchestral performance of Sibelius’ rousing and turbulent tone poem, “Finlandia.”
