Explore the unknown

Journey to new depths with two insightful contemporary works that reflect our curiosity about the world and our shared desire for human connection.

Justin Peck’s epic ballet Everywhere We Go floods the stage with kaleidoscopic movement. Peck’s energetic choreography shines against a nine-movement orchestral score composed by GRAMMY and Academy Award nominee Sufjan Stevens. With an impressive cast of 25 dancers, this ensemble-driven piece will have you talking long after you leave the theater.

The program builds to a stunning crescendo with a brand-new work created by lauded choreographer Nanine Linning. Through the lens of an artist, Linning explores the power of expression to shed light on the importance of ocean preservation. Debussy’s sweeping La Mer and choral work Sirènes performed live by the Boston Ballet Orchestra and Boston’s virtuosic women’s vocal group LORELEI ENSEMBLE will be punctuated by newly created musical compositions by composer Yannis Kyriakides. Vivid imagery in collaboration with haute couture designer Yuima Nakazato, visual and new media artist Heleen Blanken, and award-winning lighting designer Brandon Stirling Baker combine with Linning’s explosive choreography for an unforgettable dance experience.

Boston Ballet and the WOODS HOLE OCEANOGRAPHIC INSTITUTION (WHOI) are collaborating on the world premiere of La Mer, a contemporary ballet that explores the nature of threats facing the ocean, as well as the potential in the ocean to create solutions to our most challenging environmental and societal problems. Both organizations believe that the creative drive inherent in both the arts and sciences to learn more about the world around us can be the basis for positive change worldwide. The goal of the ballet is to inspire curiosity about our shared ocean planet and to raise hope for a sustainable future for all.
