All video and photography used in the campaign were created at our home theater, Citizens Opera House. Built in 1928 and painstakingly restored in 2004 the theater is full of intricate detail and majestic spaces full of historical detail. Our collection of photography explores the spaces of the theater, bringing them to life in six key scenes and a ballet performed with the house seats as the grand backdrop.

As a non-profit, we often look for talent and savings within our own internal community. For this shoot, Company Soloist Lawrence Rines Munro and Chief Marketing Officer Deborah Moe styled the looks in the shoot from their own closets. Dancers styled their own hair and makeup and provided their own footwear as well as rehearsal wear for the video. Lastly, the Boston Ballet costume department lovingly fit and finished each look so our dancers could move and sparkle in each spectacular scene. We are so grateful to everyone involved for their passion and creativity.

Scene 1

Boston is known for its traffic as much as its thriving live arts scene. Despite best laid plans, running late to the theater is a familiar scene to our audiences. In this collection of photos, we show a trio of excited friends racing towards the entrance of the theater.

Scene 2

One of the most photographed moments at the Citizens Opera House is on the grand lobby staircase. Whether a whole family posing in front of our decorated Nutcracker tree or an influencer dressed to impress, the staircase is always a must-have photo op and a chance to have your very own “Cinderella” moment.

Scene 3

The theater is always abuzz after the curtain falls on Act 1 of a ballet. Whispers can be heard across rows of seats and in the bar lines. In this scene, we imagined a group of friends enjoying refreshments in the Smoker’s Lounge on the mezzanine level. With its gold damask walls, high chandelier, and intricately carved fireplace it invites drama and fun moments between the acts.

Scene 4

Generations of couples will tell you that there is no better date than a night at the ballet. In this scene we cast our two lovely married couples enjoying the view and reminding us that we should always make time for dance, music, memories, and laughter.

Scene 5

Live performances are a perfect opportunity to get together with friends. In this scene we show a rather raucous group of friends enjoying themselves in the lower lobby and making memories at the ballet.

The inspiration for our video came from the connection between the audience and performers. As dancers and musicians, we feel the energy from the audience, and it unlocks new depths for us as we bring the choreography and symphonies to life. As audience members, watching the performers on stage lifts us out of our seats and fills us with inspiration unlike anything we see on a screen.

The video showcases new choreography from Principal Dancer Lia Cirio, original music from Josh Knowles, and a violin duet by Josh Knowles and Boston Ballet Orchestra Concert Master Christine Vitale.
