Serenade

CELEBRATING 90 YEARS

George Balanchine’s Serenade is the first ballet he created after arriving in America 90 years ago. Set to Tchaikovsky’s luminous score, this elegant work beautifully illustrates the choreographer’s unparalleled musicality and graceful technique, wafting like the finest perfume.

This Bitter Earth

Christopher Wheeldon’s haunting and poetic pas de deux explores vulnerability, reflection, love lost, and love found. A stirring duet, This Bitter Earth was first performed for Boston Ballet II’s virtual performance season during the pandemic. Be swept away by languid, poetic dance and the haunting collage of music by Dinah Washington and Max Richter.

Pièce Classique

Pièce Classique is a beautiful tenet to relay to the next generation of stars. Known for her commitment to the pedagogical lineage and canon of classical ballet, Korean choreographer Sonia Kim focuses on precision, energy, and artistry in her creations.

Reflecting a dancers’ training and progression, Kim’s piece increases in intensity and complexity as Prokofiev’s score soars.

Sonia Kim joins Boston Ballet School as a special guest from Korean University of the Arts where she is Dean of the School of Dance.

With Appreciation

Next Generation is underwritten by a generous gift from Donna and Michael Egan. Next Generation ticket sales directly support scholarships and financial aid for Boston Ballet School students.
