PROGRAMS

AGE 3-4

Creative Dance Summer

Creative Dance Summer Sessions blend the school year curriculum with summer fun! This class introduces students to musical, body, and spatial awareness through motor-skill based dance activities and explores relationships, such as, how dance is organized through patterns and storytelling and music’s connection to movement.

AGE 5-6

Pre-Ballet Summer

Pre-Ballet Summer Sessions mark the introduction to proper ballet steps while working on spatial awareness, especially laterality (right versus left) in an age-appropriate setting. Alongside lively music, students become acquainted with the ballet classroom and dancing in front of a mirror.

AGE 7-8

Primary Summer

The Primary Summer Session provides a space for students to safely execute foundational ballet technique including turnout of the legs, pointed feet, and body alignment. To keep students engaged in the “why” of ballet, this class introduces the idea of “critical thinking.”

AGES 5-9 (For current BBS students please see program description for eligibility information.)

Ballet and Arts Exploration

Ballet and Arts Exploration combines the best of classical ballet and visual arts through a partnership between Boston Ballet School and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. Collaborative activities in dance, music, and visual arts, encourage Ballet and Arts students to explore new artistic perspectives during the summer.

AGE 9-12 (For current BBS students Junior Summer Intensive is designed for those who have completed Elementary 1, Elementary 2, or Elementary 3.)

Junior Summer Intensive

Boston Ballet School’s Junior Summer Intensive (JSI) is an enriching summer dance program for dedicated young ballet students. Designed for ages 9-12, JSI supports the development of students seeking a higher level of commitment to their dance education.

AGE 12-16

Summer Dance Experience

Boston Ballet School’s updated Summer Dance Experience complements the progression and focus of our school year Classical Ballet Program curriculum. Our educational philosophy emphasizes the cultivation of strong technical skills, while also enriching students’ understanding and appreciation of the art form.
