Biography

Anthony Randazzo began his dance training in Michigan with his mother, Marjorie Randazzo. His studies continued with Canada’s National Ballet School under the direction of Betty Oliphant. He joined the National Ballet of Canada at the invitation of Alexander Grant and worked with esteemed artists including Erik Bruhn, Robert Desrosiers, Celia Franca, Danny Grossman, Constantin Patsalas, Peter Schaufuss, and Glen Tetley.

In 1987, Randazzo joined San Francisco Ballet under the direction of Helgi Tomasson and was promoted to principal dancer in 1988. Randazzo was named “San Francisco Ballet’s premiere danseur noble” by the San Francisco Chronicle. In 1997 Randazzo returned to the National Ballet of Canada as Artist-in-Residence, where he finished his performing career.

Well known for principal roles in Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, Romeo and Juliet, and La Sylphide, his partnership with Evelyn Cisneros-Legate is highly acclaimed. He performed leading roles in works by Sir Frederick Ashton, George Balanchine, David Bintley, John Cranko, William Forsythe, James Kudelka, Jiří Kylián, Harald Lander, Sir Kenneth MacMillan, Mark Morris, Rudolf Nureyev, Jerome Robbins, Paul Taylor, and Helgi Tomasson.

Randazzo coaches a wide variety of Boston Ballet repertoire, teaches Company class, assists choreographers and stagers, stages existing works, and coaches dancers. Randazzo works closely with resident choreographer Jorma Elo on numerous new works and revivals.

Randazzo is an Honorary Member of Cecchetti International.
