Spotlight | Mother Ginger

Beautifully crafted costumes help dancers bring a great narrative to life, whether it be the corps’ elegant tutus in Swan Lake or Mother Ginger’s towering hair and expansive hoop skirt in THE NUTCRACKER. Artist Schuyler Wijsen discusses how he transforms into this larger-than-life role. From walking on stilts in the 50-pound costume, to embodying the character’s exuberant personality, becoming Mother Ginger is a feat as enormous as her silhouette.
