During his tenure, Mikko Nissinen has re-created productions of The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, and Raymonda, with renowned designer Robert Perdziola. In these new productions, the Company honors the rich tradition of classical ballet and brilliant craftsmanship with many of the sets and costumes built and painted right here in New England. Boston Ballet also strives to preserve the beauty and rigor of the classical canon while reimagining outdated narratives and cultural depictions, ensuring these timeless ballets remain relevant, welcoming, and inspiring for future generations.

Before joining Boston Ballet in 2001, Mikko was an internationally acclaimed artist and former dancer with San Francisco Ballet and Dutch National Ballet, Nissinen is recognized for his visionary leadership, commitment to artistic excellence, and dedication to developing the next generation of dancers. Under his direction, Boston Ballet has expanded its repertoire, strengthened its global reputation, and deepened its impact both on stage and in the community.
