ChoreograpHER Initiative

Lia Cirio and Patric Palkens with Artists of Boston Ballet in Claudia Schreier's Slipstream by Rosalie O'Connor

Empowering female choreographic voices and taking bets on rising stars has long been central to the mission of Boston Ballet. As part of our ChoreograpHER initiative, we provide artistic development to female dance students in the studios. We encourage the choreographic voices of professional dancers with opportunities to form work performed on the mainstage. We invest in new works from emerging and established visionaries to bring their unique voices and perspectives to our audiences and into the future of our artform.

Seeking to address the historical underrepresentation of female leadership in ballet, ChoreograpHER strives to create effective change by supporting, commissioning, and amplifying women’s choreographic voices. Please help us to support and celebrate women artists by making a gift. We hope you will join us on this important journey to drive change for women in the dance world and beyond.

With Sincere Appreciation

The Company gratefully acknowledges the outstanding support of Barbara and Amos Hostetter in our commitment to amplifying diverse artistic voices.

The ChoreograpHER Initiative has been made possible by Lead Sponsors Amy and David Abrams, Marie and Mark Schwartz, and Elizabeth Yntema, along with a generous grant from the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation.

“Centering women choreographers in ballet not only allows their perspectives to shine through, but it has the potential to shift the culture of the art form and to advance it.”
