Biography
Matthew Bates joined The Royal Ballet School at the age of 11 and trained at the Lower and Upper School for eight years. In 2019, he joined Ballet Zurich Junior Company in Zurich, Switzerland under the direction of Christian Spuck, where he danced corps de ballet and soloist roles.
Bates’ repertoire includes Craig Davidson’s Entropy (trio), Edward Clug’s Chamber Minds (Andrei) and Peer Gynt, Crystal Pite’s Angels Atlas and Emergence, Christian Spuck’s Dornröschen/Sleeping Beauty (Silver Fairy, Four Princes), The Nutcracker, Anna Karenina, Leonce and Lena (Ankleider), and Monteverdi, and Peter Wright’s The Nutcracker (Fritz, Russian Trepak).
Bates received the Valerie Adams Award for Musicality and Dynamic Performance at The Royal Ballet School in 2016.
Matthew Bates joined Boston Ballet as an artist of the Company in 2022.
