Boston Ballet School offers two unique training opportunities for educators through our American Preparatory Ballet Training
and Adaptive Dance Teacher Training programs.
AMERICAN PREPATATORY BALLET TRAINING
Dates: August 8, 2pm-8 pm; August 9-10, 8 am-5 pm
Cost: $1200

APBT© is based on the principles and philosophies of movement, as well as leading research in the field of early childhood education. Through a dual lecture and practical application experience, participants will learn how this approach to teaching can motivate children to explore movement, interact socially and develop physically.
After completing APBT© Teacher Training participants will be able to implement the curriculum in their own setting. This course is applicable to teachers who teach not only in typical dance schools, but also general preschool and childcare settings.
APBT© certification completion will equip teachers with the following:
- Age-appropriate example lesson plans for 7 different developmental levels of students
- Music playlist examples to accompany lesson plans
- Strategies to manage positive and negative behavior within a classroom setting
- Elevated confidence to present/create a supportive and inclusive environment for student
- Connection to Boston Ballet School and a network for APBT© certified teachers
ADAPTIVE DANCE TEACHER TRAINING
Dates: July 11, 5:30-8 pm; July 12-13, 8 am-5 pm

Boston Ballet School’s award-winning Adaptive Dance Program welcomes students of all ages and abilities to learn ballet technique in a safe and nurturing environment. One of the first of its kind, the Adaptive Dance curriculum and framework has inspired programs both nationally and internationally. Led by expert faculty, Adaptive Dance Teacher Training is for educators, program managers, physical therapists, and other service providers interested in teaching dance and movement to individuals with disabilities.
ADTT completion will equip teachers with the following:
- The opportunity to engage in dance instruction and Q&A sessions with current faculty from Boston Ballet School’s Adaptive Dance Program.
- Develop strategies for modifying dance instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Learn about the contextual needs affecting students with disabilities and their families.
- Hear from Boston Children’s Hospital medical professionals to gain baseline knowledge about disability, diagnosis, and treatment.
- Practice implementing elements of Boston Ballet School’s Adaptive Dance Program to meet the needs of various settings.
