Boston Ballet warmly welcomes families and children with the safety of our artists, staff, and audiences as our top priority. Everything went smoothly, every person we interacted with was lovely. The atmosphere was simultaneously elegant and child friendly. Very interesting to see how kids behaved so appropriately!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have children’s ticket pricing?
Youth ages 20 and under save 50% on tickets in sections A and B for select performances. Call the Box Office at 617.695.6955 for details and to order.

What are your health and safety protocols?
Boston Ballet is committed to the health, safety, and well-being of our community. Before attending a performance, be sure to check our THEATER FAQ and your email for the latest information.

What are the age recommendations for each show?
This SEASON encompasses a wide variety of ballets, some that tell a story, others focused on the music and dance. Most have 30 minutes to one hour of dancing followed by an intermission. Many children can remain quiet, attentive, and seated for a one-hour stretch, but you know your child best.

Please call our Box Office for suggestions of productions children might enjoy and more information about the lengths of performances. Note that infants and children under 2 years of age are not allowed in the theater, and The Nutcracker is recommended for children ages 5 and up.

Is the Citizens Bank Opera House accessible to children?
Absolutely. The Citizens Bank Opera House offers stroller storage, booster seats, and family bathrooms. Just ask an usher for assistance when you arrive.

Many kids enjoy exploring the historic and palace-like space before the show begins. The Opera House is a beautiful building, with plenty of hidden details in its architecture.

What should I consider when buying tickets for my family?
The Mezzanine section’s stadium-style seating may provide a better view for small theatergoers. Families with young children might also prefer aisle seats, in case of bathroom emergencies or restless legs. Booster seats are available for anyone who needs a little extra height—just ask an usher. Please note: Every patron regardless of age must have a ticket; lap-sitting is not permitted.

Can I bring food into the theater?
The Citizens Opera House sells a variety of drinks and tasty treats. If you’re craving a larger meal or have some picky eaters in your group, try one of the many SURROUNDING RESTAURANTS. Please note, no outside food is allowed in the Opera House.

For more information and tips on enjoying your performance, please download our CHILDREN AND FAMILIES info sheet or visit our FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS page. We hope to see you at the theater soon!
