Open Classes

What are Open Adult Classes?
Boston Ballet School’s Open Adult Classes allow for a flexible course of student for students ages 16 and older. Three levels of classes are offered at Boston and Newton Studios. Please sign up PRIOR to the start of class on Mindbody.

Online Account & Registration
We strongly encourage advanced online registration via Mindbody to secure a spot in class. Our class sizes are limited, and walk- ins will be accommodated as possible. All students must have an online account before attending class for the first time. Your online account enables you to purchase, view, and cancel classes. Upon creating an account, you will sign our liability waiver.

Class Card
You may choose to purchase a 10-class card for $200 ($50 savings) to allocate towards open adult classes. This card is non- refundable, nontransferable, and expires one year from purchase date.

Class Capacity
To keep our class quality high and ensure our student experience is always a positive one, all open classes are capped at 30 students. Certain classes fill up quickly, so to ensure your spot in class, we recommend students sign up for classes online via Mindbody ahead of time. If the class is full, you can join the waitlist and be notified if a spot opens. Walk-ins will be added to the waiting list for a full-class on a first-come, first-served basis and will be let into class if a spot opens after a 10-minute grace-period for registered students.

Class Levels
Descriptions of each level are found on the Open Adult class page. We recommend starting in a lower level and assessing from there.

Class Cancellation Policy
You may choose to cancel and open class reservation at any time within your online account. If you cancel and open class reservation that you have paid for with a class card before the one-hour mark (i.e., class is at 7 pm and you cancel any time before 6 pm that day), you will receive a class credit to be used within 1 year of the purchase date of the class card. If you cancel an open class reservation that you have paid for at the drop-in rate before the one-hour mark (i.e., class is at 7 pm and you cancel any time before 6 pm that day), you will receive a class credit to be used within 3 months of the purchase date of the class reservation. If you cancel an open class reservation after the one-hour mark (i.e., class is at 7 pm and you cancel any time after 6 pm that day), you will not receive a class credit.

Workshops

What are Workshops?
Workshops are registered 18-week courses designed for students to develop their understanding of dance. Workshops are recommended for students who have never danced before, or are looking for a back-to-basics reentry to ballet.

Withdrawal Policy
Please call a Studio Administrator at 617.456.6333 or email school@bostonballet.org if you wish to withdraw from a workshop. If you withdraw prior to the first class, you will receive a full refund. If you withdraw prior to the second class, you will receive a full credit on your account for a future Boston Ballet School class. Tuition is non-refundable after the second class with the exception of medical injuries. A doctor’s note must be provided to ensure a refund.

Makeup Policy
We understand that circumstances may arise that prevent students from attending class. In these instances, we kindly as that the student’s absence be reported so that the faculty and administration may accurately track attendance. To report an absence or schedule a make-up class, please email school@bostonballet.org. Make-up classes may only be completed within 30 days of the absence in another workshop at our Boston or Newton locations that is the same or lower level.

General Inquiries

Class Attire
The only traditional ballet attire that BBS requires for our Adult students is ballet slippers. Otherwise, students wear what is easy to move in and makes them most comfortable. For some, this is the traditional leotard and tights; for others, this is closer to typical work-out clothing – sweats, leggings, t-shirts. Whatever you choose to wear, we ask that it be form-fitted, stretchy, allow for freedom of movement, and be comfortable. Ballet slippers may be purchased from local retailers. Longer hair should be neatly pulled away from the face and dangling jewelry is discouraged.

Class Arrival Time
We strongly encourage arriving and checking in with a Studio Administrator at the front desk at least 15 minutes before class begins.

Locker Rooms
Boston Ballet School have changing facilities available for student use. Students are encouraged to bring locks to secure their items while they are in class. Students must remove locks at the end of each day.

Class Cancellations
Closings due to inclement weather or other emergencies are listed on our Class Cancellation Hotline, and in our school@bostonballet.org automatic reply message. When the weather turns bad, we assess cancelling classes throughout the day. If we determine that classes will be cancelled, it will be listed on the hotline. To access the Class Cancellation Hotline, please call 617.456.6311 for the most up-to-date information. If you have an online account and reserved your spot for class online, you will receive an email confirming if class has been cancelled and the class credit will be applied to your account.

Communications
BBS communicates important School information and updates to our students primarily via email. This enables you to receive communications such as BBS bulletins, special events, and announcements. Boston Ballet School’s website and Studio Administrators at the front desk are very helpful resources!
